GARDENIA

A gardenia  is a 10-line poem. It must contain at least two amphibrachs, which is a trisyllabic metric foot having 1 accented or long syllable between two unaccented or short syllables.  (See Hoboken and Poughkeepsie, lines  1 and 3.)  The poem has couplet rhyme.

The sample is from Ms. Sowell;s book, Poetry Pattenrs A-Z.

Unlucky in Love

Her guy in Hoboken?
He left her heart-broken.

Her friend in Poughkeepsie
ran off with a gypsy.

Her amorous Persian
found other diversion.

And as for the Prussian,
he married a Russian.

In love, she's unlucky,
this girl from Kentucky.
