KERF

The kerf is a 12-line poem arranged in 4 groupings o 3 lines each. The syllable count is 6,7,10 for each group, and the rhyme scheme is abc-abc-def-def.

The example is from Mary H. Sowell's book, Poetry Patterns A-Z.

A Peaceful Stroll

The summer sun goes down
behind an Ozark mountain,
and evening shadows creep across the land.
I walk away from town
and stop beside a fountain
that spills its splendor in a silver band.
Away from city sounds,
I hear the voice of Nature.
It soothes my soul and grants a sweet release.
God's handiwork abounds
in endless nomenclature,
and I am filled with harmony and peace.
