HAZEL

The hazel is an 8-line structure written in iambic meter.  Ssyllable count per line is  6-8-8-6-6-8-8-6, abacdbdc.

Check out this sample from Mary H. Sowell's little book, Poetry Patterns A-Z.

Undaunted

I often wonder why
the sweetest fruits are out of reach,
and so, no matter now I try,
it's seldom worth the pain,
the scratches and the scrapes
to reach the highest, ripest peach.
In spite of worms and near escapes,
I always try again.

(P.S.:  I'm not happy with this sample, but it's the only one  I have. If someone can provide a better example, I'd be happy to use that instead.)
