VIVIANNE SONNET
The Vivianne sonnet is a 15-line poem in iambic pentameter. The rhyme scheme is abcd abcd abcd eee.
Here are two examples contributed by Vivian Stewart of Poetry Society of Oregon, creator of the form. Many thanks to her for these.
Light Catchers
I write to poets about
poetry,
the priceless gift of
those who take delight
to pen a
feeling, bare an honest thought
to unknown readers--any
place or age.
With talent comes
responsibility
to listen to the heart,
slow down and write,
paint images
and capture lessons taught
with just right words
and lines upon a page.
This is a gift bestowed
by Deity--
so give back poems. They
may be flames of light
like stars you touched
or fireflies you caught
to bring some hope or
message to life's stage.
Yes, catch them when
they flutter in your mind--
be first to greet your
poems. You may find
you lit a flame to glow
for humankind.

When Mama Prayed
Big Barry Mason's mother
was well churched
and prayed for that
Hell's Angel every day.
But Barry was a rascal
to the core,
so only Mama thought he'd ever change.
He led the gang and as a
group they searched
for thrills through
booze, exploiting danger's way.
--Hell's Angels spike
their turf at Satan's door,
but Mama-Love, like
God's is wondrous strange.
She found him in a
nightclub. There she perched
upon a stool, and she
commenced to pray.
"Lord
God, please save my son--and one thing more--
protect him. Keep those
gangsters out of range."
Praise God for Mother's prayers. Amazing Grace!
God's Angels came and
took Hell's Angels' place.
Now Jesus glows on Barry
Mason's face.
